Coachella Animal Shelter shares Update on Dogs Rescued from Hoarding Case in Thermal

In a shocking discovery yesterday, at least 30 dogs were rescued from captivity at a home in the Thermal area. Almost 20 dogs were found dead.

Most of the dogs were transported to the Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms to be treated. Shelter officials tell News Channel 3 the dogs arrived in poor condition, weak from malnutrition and heat exposure.

But some are looking much stronger now, having received food, water and vet check-ups.

However, with the shelter already overcrowded, resources are being stretched thin. They're asking for the community's help.

“We have a lot of programs so I tell people keep it simple. Just come talk to us, right. Whether it’s foster or adopt. Or even if they want to take the dog for a weekend for a field trip. Anything they can do to take a dog out of here, we’re going to make it happen because we really just need to make the space so we can provide more care. And the best home is a home not a cage.”

Jaclyn Schart, Deputy Director of Coachella Valley Animal Campus

The Animal Campus has recently announced that all dog adoptions will be free until the end of the month to help with overcrowding.
