PSPD Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect

Palm Springs police arrested a man suspected in an armed robbery that happened Wednesday night.

23-year old Avante Gant was arrested for an armed robbery on Wednesday at around 11:00 PM in a parking lot on the 1700 block of Vista Chino.

According to PSPD, the victim had just withdrawn money from an ATM machine, when Gant allegedly approached the victim while pointing a handgun and demanding money. The victim turned over their money and Gant walked away.

Police were called moments later and officers quickly arrived in the area. A few more minutes later, an officer spotted Gant trying to hide behind a tree. The officer illuminated Gant with his spotlight and Gant took off running. After a brief chase, Gant lied on the ground and was detained in handcuffs. Police found a loaded handed on Gant and he was identified by the suspect.

Gant was arrested without further incident and was booked on the multiple charges including possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, 2nd-degree robbery, violation of parole, among other charges.

Palm Springs Police have received five armed robbery reports since March 22nd, four of which are still under investigation.
