Gene Autry Trail open again through Whitewater wash after low visibility closure

The city of Palm Springs has shut down N Gene Autry Trail and Vista Chino at the Whitewater Wash due to low visibility Wednesday night.
Both roadway, key roads in and out of Palm Springs, have been regularly shut down due to the same issue all month. Winds pick up sand, making it hard to see while driving.
On Sept. 3, reduced visibility was a factor in a crash that killed three people along Gene Autry.
N Indian Canyon Drive, the other major roadway in and out of the city, has been shut down for a month due to the damage from Tropical Storm Hilary. City officials said Indian Canyon is expected to be closed for months.
