Coachella Valley law enforcement officials plan DUI holiday checkpoints
Coachella Valley law enforcement agencies are planning DUI and driver’s license checkpoints at undisclosed locations over the next few days.
Riverside County sheriff’s deputies will conduct a checkpoint in Coachella from 7 p.m. today until 3 a.m. Saturday; in Palm Desert from 9 p.m. today until 3 a.m. Saturday; and in Indian Wells from 9 p.m. on Monday until 3 a.m. on New Year’s Day, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The Palm Springs Police Department has scheduled a checkpoint that will begin tonight at 8:30 and run through 2:30 tomorrow morning.
The checkpoints are aimed at reducing the number of people killed or injured on local roads by impaired drivers. Motorists found to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol can expect jail time, a license suspension, insurance increases and fines, according to authorities.
The checkpoints are funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
