Farmworker Appreciation Day event scheduled in Mecca

Members of California Rural Legal Assistance will train Mecca-area farmworkers on legal issues and feed them as part of its 10th annual Farmworker Appreciation Day today.

The nonprofit group’s event at Mecca Elementary School is set to start at 5 p.m. Beside food and legal information, farmworkers will be given a bandanna to help prevent pesticide and dust inhalation, according to CRLA.

Oakland-based CRLA, which has an office in Coachella, provides legal services to immigrants and low-paid farmworkers.
