Suspect pleads not guilty in Pinyon Pines triple murder

One of two men charged with three counts of murder in a Pinyon Pines case that occurred nearly eight years ago was arraigned in Indio Wednesday morning.

Cristin Smith, 25, faced a judge at the Larson Justice Center and plead not guilty to all three murder charges against him.

Smith’s due back in court on May 14.

Smith and Robert Pape are both facing murder charges with special enhancements of multiple murders and personal use of a firearm against a victim.

The charges stem from the deaths of 18-year old Rebecca Friedli, her mother Vickie Friedli, 53, and her mother’s boyfriend, 55-year-old Jon Hayward, who were killed at their Pinyon Pines home in September of 2006.

Pape’s arraignment is scheduled for May 16.
