Coachella man killed, another person hurt, in Tuesday crash

One person was killed in a two-vehicle collision in Coachella Tuesday afternoon.

The Riverside County Coroners Office said Gilberto Cardenas, 64, of Coachella died minutes after the wreck that happened on Avenue 50 and Van Buren Street at 4:45 pm.

Cardenas was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Deputy Mike Vasquez of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Another person also suffered minor injuries.

Roads were closed for over seven hours to allow a reconstruction team to investigate the collision. The intersection was reopened shortly after midnight.
