More than 100 turtles removed from Civic Center Park
A rescue group is helping move hundreds of turtles from the Civic Center Park pond in Palm Desert.
Kim Thomas with the San Diego Turtle and Tortoise Society caught the turtles at the park’s pond Friday morning. This comes as the organization is gearing up for its biggest turtle show of the year at Balboa Park in San Diego in a few weeks. The turtles will be offered for adoption.
“We got 130 total so far today. Back in February we got 200 or so. We adopted all those out and we’re hoping to adopt these out of the show,” said Thomas.
Thomas says there’s an overpopulation of turtles at the Palm Desert park. He urges people to not feed the turtles bread. It fills them up but doesn’t give them the proper nutrition.
